EXPERIENCE

with live music in Prague venue

A musical journey from the past to the present

Travel through several centuries of music in one concert for trumpet, organ and piano. The programme begins with famous baroque and classical works by Bach and Handel. You will also hear Dvořák’s moving Largo from the New World Symphony in a special organ version, followed by well-known melodies from films, musicals, pop and jazz.

Modern music is rarely performed in arrangements for trumpet and organ. In the exceptional acoustics of St. Nicholas Church, these familiar melodies sound fresh and create a special atmosphere. The concert is performed by František Bílek, solo trumpeter of the State Opera Prague, and Michal Hanzal, principal organist and pianist of the church.

Discover Dvořák’s Largo in an unusual organ version

One of the most memorable moments of this concert is Dvořák’s gentle Largo from the New World Symphony performed on the large pipe organ. Its calm melody fills the dome and shows  softer, more emotional side of an instrument that is usually known for its majestic power.

The trumpet brings a different colour to the programme. You will first hear it from a side balcony, then together with the organ high above the audience, and finally downstairs, close to the listeners. Each position changes the sound — from distant and spacious to warm and direct.

This unusual movement through the church allows you to compare how the same trumpet sounds in different parts of the baroque interior. Combined with the exceptional acoustics of St. Nicholas Church, the contrast between the gentle organ, bright trumpet and familiar modern melodies creates a sound experience rarely heard at regular concerts.
