Golden brass and majestic organ in the historic centre of Prague

Five elegant musicians with polished brass instruments perform together as Prague Brass Ensemble. These professional players come from the National Theatre, State Opera Prague, Czech Philharmonic and Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. The bright and festive sound of their instruments alternates with the majestic pipe organ of St. Nicholas Church.

The concert opens with the famous Prelude from Te Deum, performed as a ceremonial brass fanfare with organ. The programme then moves through classical music, popular Italian songs, film music and world-famous jazz melodies. Dvořák’s gentle Largo from the New World Symphony gains a special sound and character in an unusual version for brass instruments.

Brass sound from above and close to the audience

Part of the concert takes place high above the audience on the main balcony beside the large pipe organ. The organ tones and the sound of the brass instruments rise into the church dome and spread throughout the baroque interior. The opening fanfare sounds especially festive and powerful from this position.

During the concert, Prague Brass Ensemble also performs downstairs, directly in front of the audience. From close by, you can admire the polished golden instruments and hear their warmer, clearer and more direct sound.

Thanks to the exceptional acoustics and unique design of St. Nicholas Church, the same instruments create a different impression in each part of the space. The contrast between the majestic organ, festive brass sound and lively classical and popular melodies makes the concert impressive to hear and enjoyable to watch.
